Source for the Great Clock Pediment View Interactive Version ]

Monticello's Great Clock, made in Philadelphia by Peter Spurck in the 1790s, was installed in the Entrance Hall at Monticello about 1805. Jefferson supplied his joiners with a full-size drawing of the pediment detail. The pediment is copied from an example by Palladio for embellishing doors and windows.
