Benjamin Franklin Randolph, the ninth child of Martha Jefferson Randolph and Thomas Mann Randolph, was born at Edgehill on 14 July 1808. Ben Randolph attended the University of Virginia and graduated with a degree in medicine in 1831. On 13 November 1834, he married Sally Champe Carter of Redlands. Sally and Ben ultimately settled at Round Top, where they raised three children: Isaetta Carter Randolph, Lewis Carter Randolph, and Robert Mann Randolph. Although Ben was a physician by vocation, he also farmed and participated in state politics. In his later years, Randolph supported the Confederacy and purportedly drilled with his sonís volunteer company. He died on 18 February 1871.
