Site 29 - Slave Quarter View Interactive Version ]

Site 29 consists of a creamware sherd and a scatter of wrought nails and other metal objects, including a piece of nailrod. The artifacts themselves combined with an understanding of the industrial activities along the Rivanna River suggest an early-Monticello date to this site. It is likely a domestic site that may be associated with a blacksmith shop known from documentary sources to be located nearby. Additional industrial activity in the vicinity was Jeffersonís sawmill located approximately 1,000 feet south along the river.
