Site 09 - Slave Quarter View Interactive Version ]

Site 9 was identified in 1997 during the ongoing Monticello Plantation Archaeological Survey. The domestic artifacts excavated here, such as creamware, pearlware, wine bottle glass, and window glass, suggest that this was the site of a slave quarter, though there is no documentary record of its existence. In addition, the presence of a small number of nail rod fragments at the site suggests a connection with nail-making activity, including a possibility that slaves may have made nails on their own time.
