The Oblong Field was part of the Lego quarter farm. In 1797, Jefferson received and noted in his Farm Book an estimate that this field might produce three and a half barrels of corn. In 1811, he designated it and the Square Field as one area for a crop-rotation scheme of corn, peas (or oats or millet), wheat, and clover.
